Just 31 km south of the accommodation dominates in an imposing rocky landscape the sacred monastery of Panagia Prousiotissa. It is one of the most important religious centers in all of Greece with thousands of visitors every year. But apart from the fact that the monastery is built as if hanging from the rocks, it holds the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, which is said to have escaped from Bursa of Asia Minor in 829 AD. According to tradition, it then disappeared at a point somewhere in Thrace and was revealed again to a shepherd, at that point on August 23, the day where he is celebrated.
